Concrete Floors

When one of our surveyors carries out an inspection of a solid floor, it may be necessary to take core samples to ascertain if a damp proof membrane has been fitted within the floor structure. On many floors, this is not necessary as visual evidence or protimeter readings will reveal if a damp proof membrane has been installed.

Any damp arising from the floor could attack the surrounding timbers and joinery, as well as cause deterioration to the floor covering, and it may be necessary to replace the solid floor. The existing floor slab will need to be removed to a sufficient depth to accommodate inert hard-core, a 1200-gauge damp proof membrane and insulation slabs, followed by a concrete or other finish.
